Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson Both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. From the age of six Emma was aware she would like to become an actress. Over several years, she attended the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre academy where she studied the art of acting and dancing. It was already her turn to perform in various Stagecoach performances as well as in school events before she turned ten. The casting process began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Agents for casting found Emma by way of her Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been cast in these roles.
